Road Trip!

You’re going on a cross-country trip. Airplane, train, bus, car, or bike?

I grew up loving road trips with my family in our station wagon car! It was the seven of us driving the highways to see my grandparents! It was an adventure for sure, though I didn’t realize how much so until many years later.

My family would travel through the night and not making stops along the way, only at The South of the Border. I didn’t know it then, but it was not safe for us to stop to get gas, and staying at a hotel was out of the question. We traveled from Virginia to South Carolina and at the time it was not safe for African Americans traveling through the southern part of the country.

My mom and dad always made it fun for us. I never thought anything about us always traveling at night, but grew up loving and seeing it as adventurous.

But, for me nowadays, I also love traveling by train! Sleeper cars are the best! I took a train from Oregon to Texas one summer, it was the 101 Scenic Route along the California coast. I had sleeper car accommodations and it was the best trip ever! I hope to be able to do that again soon!

This Weekend…

What makes you most anxious?

I try not to be anxious, when I feel myself getting anxious/overwhelmed, I breathe 🧘‍♀️ and talk myself off the edge.

But, this weekend or the Thursday start of the NCAA basketball tournament is a good anxious time for me. I have been watching the tournament since I was ten years old. I love it, the excitement of just each team/school having their moment to shine ✨ on the national stage.

My Men’s bracket is holding on, with a few bumps on the road, but my Women’s bracket is looking great!! My alum mater put in a decent effort against the overwhelming number 1 seed, South Carolina Lady Gamecocks, proud of The Norfolk State Spartanettes! Behold the Green and Gold!

On to watch the last few games of the second round and on to the Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight next weekend!

Does ESPN Sports Center count?!

What movies or TV series have you watched more than 5 times?

Okay, I don’t have television or computer in my home, but I am a huge sports fan! I am a fan of it all, Olympics, NCAA football, basketball, baseball, gymnastics, etc. So, that is what my tv would be set on all day and night.

But, a movie that I just love and watched four times in one day is Carson McCullers’, The Heart is a Lonely Hunter. It is a great read and the movie is even better to me. The acting was just amazing. I also love Cecil B. DeMille’s, The Ten Commandments. It was one of my dad’s favorite movie. And, tv show/series would be Hart of Dixie, that show just tickled me and makes me smile. Love that Wade Kinsella! 🤗

And, yes, I am streaming the NCAA tournament on my phone, as I type/post!! 🏀 And my bracket is a bit off kilter with a few upsets earlier today.

Not Really…

Are you superstitious?

I grew up with my mom having old wives’ tales that she would say and as a child, I trusted her wisdom. Some that I remember were: going outside with wet hair you could catch a cold, cracking your knuckles/fingers would give girls fat fingers, and chocolate causes acne. Though, I don’t consider myself superstitious, I don’t crack my fingers, go outside with wet hair and I am not a chocolate lover. ☺️

My mom also lived by rules like, eating black eyed peas and collared greens with New Year’s dinner for good luck, having a man enter the house first on New Year’s Day, thank you to my uncles who obliged my mom on this one. And, she didn’t wear white after Labor Day, though she did relinquish that some for “winter” white.

I loved and adored my mom and would honor her by following the many “superstitions” or wives’ tales she told. It was fun growing up with my siblings and the five of us trying to keep up with them all for my mom.

Go Bengals

Which animal would you compare yourself to and why?

Since childhood, I have been fascinated with tigers 🐅 or any large cat breed. Panthers, leopards 🐆, jaguars, and the cheetah.

They are sleek, and strong animals with a hint of mystique and prowling beauty. There is an exotic and unique beauty in their skin/coloring. The black panther has an undercoat that is patterned with spots or stripes. And, the look of their cat eyes, is probably my most favorite. They are mystical and alluring.

And, I am a bit of a cougar myself. 🤗

Shopping Spree

Where would you go on a shopping spree?

I love shopping for birthday gifts and other special occasion gifts, but if I am going on a shopping spree, it would be in Paris, France 🇫🇷 I love shoe shopping and shopping for cute, unique purses 👛
